My Favorite Treat in the UK: Cream Tea

Back in 2019, I travelled to Wales, UK with one of my good friends. We went on a hike to Penbryn Beach and afterwards, found an adorable little tea house. We each ordered “Cream Tea”, which consists of hot tea, scones, clotted cream, and jam. If you’ve never heard of clotted cream like me, it’s essentially cows milk that’s been heated using either steam or a water bath, and then it’s left to cool off slowly. The process creates “clots” of cream content, and it has a slightly sweet and salty flavor to it. Imagine something in between whipped cream and butter.

I became obsessed with Cream Tea and vowed to have it again next time I went to the UK. Fast forward to September of 2022, my husband and I did a two-week road trip in Scotland, UK, and I literally asked for cream tea at every single stop we made lol Unfortunately, It’s more popular in England, and no place in Scotland had it.

When I went back to Scotland In July of this year for my best friend’s wedding, my husband and I did a day trip to England and while we were there, I found Cream Tea at a little tearoom! It hit the spot.

Needless to say, I have a weird obsession with Cream Tea and plan on trying to make my own homemade scones and clotted cream on day. It’s just the perfect mix of buttery, sweet, fluffy, salty, and soothing. It’s these little things that make life extra special.
